A month-by-month breakdown of the best time to charter a yacht in Cyprus — covering weather, sea conditions, crowds, pricing, and what each season offers.
When Is the Best Time for a Yacht Charter in Cyprus?
Cyprus enjoys one of the longest boating seasons in the entire Mediterranean. With over 340 days of sunshine per year and mild winters, the island offers viable chartering conditions from late March through November — and even beyond for the adventurous. But not all months are created equal. Sea temperature, wind patterns, tourist crowds, and pricing all shift throughout the year, and choosing the right month can make the difference between a good charter and an extraordinary one.
In this guide, we'll walk through every month of the year so you can pick the perfect time for your yacht charter in Cyprus.
Month-by-Month Breakdown
January & February
Air temp: 10–17°C | Sea temp: 16–17°C | Rainfall: Moderate
Winter is the off-season for yacht chartering in Cyprus. Most charter fleets undergo maintenance during this period, and availability is very limited. However, the weather is mild compared to northern Europe, and on calm, sunny days (which are still common), a short coastal cruise can be a unique experience. Don't expect swimming conditions — the sea is cool — but whale and dolphin sightings are more common during winter months.
March
Air temp: 13–20°C | Sea temp: 17–18°C | Rainfall: Low-moderate
Spring begins to arrive, and the island is blanketed in wildflowers. Some charter operators begin offering early-season trips from mid-March. The sea is still cool for swimming, but the coastline is stunning and crowd-free. This is a wonderful time for photography cruises and coastal sightseeing.
April
Air temp: 17–24°C | Sea temp: 18–20°C | Rainfall: Low
The official charter season opens for many operators. April weather is reliably pleasant — warm on deck, with light breezes and calm seas. Easter week (Orthodox Easter often falls in April) is popular with locals, so book early for that period. Swimming is refreshing rather than warm, but perfectly possible.
This is an excellent month for visiting Paphos and the Akamas Peninsula before the summer crowds arrive.
May
Air temp: 22–29°C | Sea temp: 20–23°C | Rainfall: Very low
May is widely considered one of the best months for yacht chartering in Cyprus. The weather is warm and settled, the sea is comfortable for swimming, and the tourist crowds haven't yet peaked. Prices are typically 10–20% lower than June–August, and availability is still good.
Popular routes like Latchi to the Blue Lagoon are enjoyable without the summer boat traffic. This is our team's personal favourite month for chartering.
June
Air temp: 26–33°C | Sea temp: 23–26°C | Rainfall: None
Summer arrives in full force. Days are long (sunrise around 5:30am, sunset around 8pm), seas are calm, and the water is warm enough for extended swimming and water sports. June marks the start of peak season, with prices rising accordingly. This is a fantastic month for sunset cruises, as the evening golden hour lasts beautifully.
July
Air temp: 29–36°C | Sea temp: 26–28°C | Rainfall: None
Peak summer. The sea reaches its warmest temperatures, making it ideal for snorkelling, diving, and all water activities. Expect strong sunshine and high temperatures on land, but the sea breeze aboard a yacht keeps things comfortable. This is the busiest month for tourism in Cyprus, so popular spots like the Blue Lagoon and Cape Greco sea caves will be crowded midday.
Pro tip: Book a full-day charter to arrive at popular spots early morning or late afternoon when the tour boats have departed.
August
Air temp: 29–37°C | Sea temp: 27–29°C | Rainfall: None
The hottest month. Sea temperatures peak at a bathtub-like 29°C. This is high season with peak pricing and the highest demand — booking 6–8 weeks in advance is essential for popular vessels. Ayia Napa and Protaras are at their liveliest, and party boats run at full capacity.
Despite the heat, yacht chartering remains comfortable because you're on the water with constant sea breeze. Many of our guests consider August the ultimate month for a Mediterranean yacht experience.
September
Air temp: 26–33°C | Sea temp: 26–28°C | Rainfall: Very low
September is arguably the sweet spot for yacht chartering. The sea is still warm from the summer, air temperatures drop to a more comfortable range, the crowds thin out noticeably, and prices begin to ease. The light takes on a softer, golden quality that makes everything look stunning. Many experienced charterers deliberately target September.
This is an ideal month for longer routes, such as multi-day trips from Limassol to Paphos or exploratory cruises along the Akamas coast.
October
Air temp: 22–29°C | Sea temp: 23–26°C | Rainfall: Low
Shoulder season returns with excellent conditions. The sea is warmer than April or May, and the weather remains predominantly sunny with occasional brief showers towards the end of the month. Prices drop 15–25% from peak, and you'll have popular anchorages largely to yourself. October is wonderful for catamaran cruises and relaxed sailing.
November
Air temp: 17–23°C | Sea temp: 21–23°C | Rainfall: Moderate
The final month of the main season. Many charter operators wind down by mid-November, but the first half of the month can still offer lovely conditions. The sea retains its warmth well into November, and you can often swim comfortably. Check weather forecasts day by day — sunny windows are common and magnificent.
December
Air temp: 12–18°C | Sea temp: 18–20°C | Rainfall: Moderate
Limited charter availability. Some operators offer festive Christmas and New Year cruises in Limassol harbour or along the coast, which can be a memorable alternative to a traditional celebration. Wrap up warm on deck!

How Weather Affects Your Route
Wind and wave conditions matter for comfort, especially on longer voyages:
- South coast (Limassol, Larnaca): Sheltered from prevailing north-westerlies; calm conditions most of the season
- West coast (Paphos, Latchi): Can experience afternoon sea breezes; mornings are typically calm
- East coast (Ayia Napa, Protaras): Protected from prevailing winds; generally the calmest waters on the island
- Akamas Peninsula: Exposed in places; best visited on settled weather days, which are frequent in summer
